Indiana bat presence/absence linear survey
Location:
Anderson County, Tennessee
Client:
Shoener Environmental, Inc.
Date:
May-June 2015
Present Status:
Complete
Major Project Elements:
Mist-Net Surveys

Shoener Environmental, Inc. subcontracted Jackson Group as part of its team for a post-construction wind farm monitoring project.  Mist-netting was used to conduct a presence/probable absence survey for Indiana bats (Myotis sodalis) and northern long-eared bats (M. septentrionalis) in Anderson County, Tennessee.

The project area was an approximately five (5) kilometers in length linear turbine site which required 30 total net nights.  This was accomplished by deploying three (3) nets at five (5) site locations.  Each site was surveyed for two (2) successful nights.  All proper protocols were followed, including the 2015 Range-Wide Indiana Bat Summer Survey Guidelines, April 2015 and the National White-Nose Decontamination Protocol – Version 06.25.2012.  All surveys were conducted by a federally permitted Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat biologist.

A total of four (4) bats were captured, representing three (3) different species: two (2) eastern red bats (Lasiurus borealis), 1 big brown bat (Eptesicus fuscus), and 1 northern long-eared bat.  This project was completed on time and within budget.
