Apogee Environmental contracted Jackson Group to perform taxonomic identification of Benthic Macroinvertebrates related to stream quality analysis for coal mining.
Following 2010 Methods for conducting Resource Extraction General Permit Intensive Surveys in non-OSRW Streams of Eastern and Central Kentucky, 56 macroinvertebrate samples, taken from a proposed mine site in Eastern Kentucky, were sorted and identified to genus level taxonomy. This included slide mounting larval midges (Chironomidae) for genus level taxonomic identification. Approximately 35 families and 50 genres were identified and recorded. Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures were performed on random samples throughout the study to ensure proper handling and identification.
